LANGUAGE IN BUSINESS – DIVERSITY AND GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING

Abstract

Globalization has imposed internationalization of economies, new developments in communication technologies and a new sociolinguistic situation. Since the traditional areas of human communication and interrelations have been undergoing a substantial growth due to the linguistic demands of the new situation, business people begin to see advantages in possessing multiple communicative competences in order to face the challenges of new social and technological development. This paper analyzes the corpus of HR terms, discusses the ever-growing influence of the infiltrated and newly generated terms, the way they entered the Serbian language and the way they are used in business communication. The survey research is initiated by the findings of the experimental study conducted for the purpose of collecting data that provide basic guidelines for working on this subject and outline a general form and scale of the problem in the treated area. As its major focus, the results of this analysis may help facilitate the mutual use and acceptance of terms, save resources for both governments and industry, and predominantly contribute to the precision and harmonisation of HR terms used in global business communication. The author is encouraged to believe that the findings of the survey of this and similar types can have some practical implications on further studies to be carried out, having in mind, in the first place, the fact that the current global communication has allowed for the transcendence of borders and the formation of a global community, which requires the process of striving for language precision.
