Abstract

Due to the great development of digitalization in the last couple of decades, higher education institutions have turned to the introduction of new educational technologies in the teaching process, as a form of support for the traditional system of teaching. However, the pandemic of the COVID-19 virus accelerated this process and forced all educational institutions around the world, including universities, to implement teaching activities exclusively in online form. The aim of this paper is to determine the success of the adaptation of Montenegrin universities to the distance learning system, as well as to make recommendations for decision makers in the field of higher education regarding future implementation of e-learning. The paper applies qualitative and quantitative research methods in order to analyze the opinions and attitudes of teaching staff on the implementation of the teaching process, as well as the readiness of educational institutions in Montenegro for the transition to distance learning system. The results of the research provide answers to the questions of technical support and training of teaching staff for online learning, advantages and disadvantages of online learning, preservation of academic integrity, e-learning platforms and other tools for online learning at higher education institutions in Montenegro.
