Abstract

The society we live and work in is subjected to ongoing changes and innovations in various fields of science, technique and communications. Over the past decades, the technological development reshaped banking industry as well, and it became the leading sector in use of new technologies, enabling at the same time that lines at bank desks are significantly shortened, while the services are closer to clients in terms of time and space. The topic of research in this paper relates to the application of information-communication technologies in RS banks, with particular emphasis on electronic banking and its distribution network. Bearing in mind the current state in commercial banks in this area, it may be said that infrastructure and technological demands are fulfilled in the needed level, but there is always space for further development and improvement. The problem lies in the fact that citizens do not use modern banking products and services up to the offered degree, but more often choose traditional methods of getting those services. Taking into consideration the data on relatively low percentage of computer use and internet in Republika Srpska, and if we add mistrust in electronic way of business to the low level of technological equipment and computer illiteracy, it is instantly clear that it is necessary to implement actions to overcome this problem. The results of researching the effects of applying information-communication technologies in commercial banks should contribute to further development and modernization of banking in the area of Republika Srpska, so that it come close to models of world banking in terms of its structure, organization, functioning and technical-technological equipment.
