Abstract

The use of ceramic materials in thermal pulverization technique has led to a massive enlargement of the range of areas in which they find their use. Due to the large hardness, the dielectric properties, the resistance to high temperatures, ceramic materials find many applications in areas such as the automotive industry, the aviation industry, the repair / rebuilt of various component. This paper presents a comparative study of plasma jet coatings realized with three types of carbides: W-Cr 17% Cr, W-Cr 12% Cr and Cr-Ni-Cr carbide. These coatings pose very good mechanical characteristics, very low porosity and a high compactness which confers them a high resistance to chemical agents. The fairly high operation temperatures, the high hardness and high tensile strengths, mean that these materials can be successfully used to confer wear resistance to the metallic substrate, even at a very small thickness. The paper wants to prove that metal carbide can be used for plasma jet deposited coatings, conferring to the metal substrate very good proprieties.
